I am joining my colleagues in filing articles of impeachment against Secretary Kristi Noem.
We are filing three articles of impeachment: obstruction of Congress, violation of public trust, and self-dealing.
It has become irrefutable that Secretary Noem has compromised public safety, violated the due process of American citizens, and directed unconstitutional actions.
In my home state of Minnesota, as we have seen across the country, Secretary Noem’s ICE agents have used increasingly aggressive, excessive, and lethal force – even against United States citizens.
Last week, Kristi Noem’s ICE agents shot and killed an unarmed United States citizen, a Minnesotan, a mother of three, in broad daylight, in her car.
Before Renee Good had even been identified or an investigation had begun, Kristi Noem launched a politicized smear campaign calling her a domestic terrorist.
And in the wake of this tragedy, Kristi Noem’s ICE agents then illegally blocked my colleagues and me from performing our legal right and Constitutional duty of performing Congressional oversight of taxpayer-funded federal facilities at the Whipple detention center this weekend.
Every single day, we have been seeing ICE agents terrorizing our communities: attacking peaceful protesters, intimidating and assaulting Minnesotans on the street, violating First Amendment rights, and detaining US citizens.
Kristi Noem’s reckless and dangerous ICE operations have completely eroded all public trust. Schools have been forced to close. Businesses and restaurants have been forced to close. Families are terrified to go to work, to seek medical care, to get groceries, or to even leave their homes. And I am routinely receiving outreach from constituents who have had family members – US citizens – detained by ICE and they cannot contact them.
Secretary Kristi Noem is making Americans less safe.
This is indisputably disqualifying.
And I hope that my Republican colleagues wake up to what we are all seeing with our own eyes and join us in this effort.
This is beyond politics. This is beyond partisan lines. This is about our solemn duty to protect the American people, uphold the Constitution, and defend the rule of law.
