BROOKLYN PARK, MN – U.S. Representative Kelly Morrison (MN-03) joined local leaders and community partners to celebrate the grand opening of Sandgrass Pointe, a new affordable housing development bringing 44 much-needed homes to Brooklyn Park.
Developed by Woda Cooper Companies and Project for Pride in Living (PPL), the $26.2 million development offers one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments for individuals and families earning between 30% and 80% of the area median income. The new community will help expand access to safe, affordable housing as families across Minnesota continue to face rising housing costs.
“As a physician who cared for Minnesotans for more than 20 years, I know that good health starts with a good home. And every Minnesotan deserves a safe, affordable place to call home,” said Congresswoman Morrison. “As we are facing a cost of living crisis, far too many Minnesotans are being priced out of the communities they call home. Sandgrass Pointe is an incredible example of what we can accomplish when local leaders, community organizations, and private partners work together to expand access to affordable housing. I'm grateful to everyone who helped make this development possible, and I'll keep fighting in Congress to ensure every Minnesotan has the opportunity to build a healthy, thriving life.”
During the grand opening, Congresswoman Morrison joined Brooklyn Park Mayor Hollies Winston and representatives from Woda Cooper, PPL, Hennepin County, the Minnesota Housing Finance Authority, and U.S. Bank for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of the new development.
In Congress, Rep. Morrison has championed efforts to address the nation's housing affordability crisis. Earlier this year, she voted in support of the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which became law in July. The legislation aims to increase the supply of affordable housing by reducing barriers to development, expanding housing financing opportunities, strengthening renter protections, and improving federal housing programs.
Rep. Morrison has also been working to end the tariff war, which has been driving up the cost of materials, making every part of building and construction more expensive. She has introduced legislation and voted repeatedly to bring relief and an end to these costly tariffs.
