U.S. Rep. Kelly Morrison Appointed to Serve on Veterans’ Affairs and Small Business Committees
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Kelly Morrison (MN-03) announced that she has received appointments to serve on the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs and the House Committee on Small Business. Rep. Morrison was sworn into Congress just earlier this month on Friday, January 3, 2025.
House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs
The House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs has jurisdiction over veterans’ issues, including veterans’ hospitals, medical care, treatment compensation, vocational rehabilitation, and education, as well as over pensions of all the wars of the United States, the readjustment of servicemembers to civil life, and servicemembers’ civil relief. To ensure veterans receive these crucial services and benefits, the Committee is committed to its oversight role of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, including the Veterans Benefits Administration, the Veterans Health Administration, and the National Cemetery Administration. The Committee also oversees life insurance issued by the Government on account of service in the Armed Forces as well as the cemeteries of the United States in which veterans of any war or conflict are or may be buried. Rep. Morrison requested to join the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and her family has a long history of military service. Her husband is a combat veteran and former Army Ranger, her father-in-law was an Airborne Ranger who received a Purple Heart and Silver Star for his brave service, and both her father and grandfathers are veterans. As a practicing physician for more than 20 years, Kelly also spent the beginning of her career caring for veterans at a VA hospital. Minnesota’s Third District is home to nearly 28,000 veterans.
“Coming from a family with a long history of military service, I am deeply honored to be joining the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Our veterans have sacrificed so much for our country, and it is our duty to ensure we are providing the resources they need and deserve. I look forward to working every day to advocate for the brave men and women who have served our country and their families,” said Rep. Morrison.
House Committee on Small Business
The Committee on Small Business is the House's primary venue for small business policy matters. The Committee works to support new and small businesses through open access to loans, credit, and capital, advocate fair and true tax relief for small business, work to open the lucrative federal marketplace to entrepreneurs, reduce onerous paperwork, and give small companies the tools they need to take care of their employees and build their companies. Small businesses form the backbone of our economy. They account for half of our gross domestic product, more than half our jobs, and three-fourths of new jobs created each year. Leading this growth in recent years have been women and minority enterprises. Small businesses also contribute innovations in manufacturing, technology, and services. There are more than half a million small businesses in Minnesota and the Third District is home to many of them.
“The Third District is home to many talented, hard-working small business owners and entrepreneurs, and I am proud to represent their voices on the Small Business Committee. Together, we will work to ensure small businesses have the support they need to strengthen our economy and make our communities thrive,” said Rep. Morrison.
Rep. Morrison is committed to working with both Democrats and Republicans to find common ground and get things done for veterans and small business owners.
“Rep. Kelly Morrison will be an outstanding member of the distinguished House Small Business and Veterans’ Affairs Committees in the 119th Congress, and her appointment to these prestigious committees is a true reflection of her exceptional talents and strong leadership in Minnesota and beyond. Over the course of the next two years, these committees will take up incredibly important work on behalf of the American people, and I look forward to seeing all Rep. Morrison accomplishes as we work together to seek common ground for the common good,” said Assistant Democratic Leader Joe Neguse.
