Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in Minnesota
EDEN PRAIRIE, MN – In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, U.S. Representative Kelly Morrison (MN-03), an OB-GYN who practiced medicine in Minnesota for more than 20 years, is raising awareness on the importance of Minnesota women getting screened for breast cancer.
According to the Minnesota Department of Health, breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in Minnesota, and the second leading cause of cancer deaths. There are about 5,300 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed among women each year in Minnesota.
To raise awareness about the importance of early detection and access to preventive breast cancer screenings, Rep. Morrison visited the Mammo A-Go-Go mobile mammography clinic at the HealthPartners Park Nicollet Eden Prairie Clinic. During her visit, Morrison toured the Mammo A-Go-Go mobile mammography unit and met with health care providers to discuss the importance of early detection, community-based preventive care, and barriers that prevent patients from accessing routine mammograms. HealthPartners Mammo A-Go-Go program brings breast cancer screening services directly into communities, helping reduce transportation, scheduling, and other barriers to preventive care.
In Congress, Rep. Morrison is a cosponsor of the Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act, legislation that would cut red tape and eliminate lengthy waiting periods for Social Security Disability Insurance and Medicare benefits for individuals with metastatic breast cancer, helping patients access critical care when they need it most. She has also secured federal funding for the Department of Defense's Breast Cancer Research Program and urged the Trump Administration to reverse cuts to women's health research. As a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Morrison has called on the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to ensure that women veterans who have undergone a mastectomy receive equal access to their veterans benefits.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer over the course of their lifetime and 40,000 women die every year in the United States of breast cancer.
Breast cancer is the number one cancer diagnosed in women in Minnesota and it is the second most common cause of cancer death of women in Minnesota.
So I want to make sure that everyone is talking with their primary care doctors, and figuring out whether or not they are due for their mammogram.
The important thing about breast cancer is screening works.
Early detection matters. It can be the difference between life and death.
I often grab one of my friends to go get our mammograms together. So talk to your friends, talk to your mom, talk to your daughter, talk to your aunt and your cousin, talk to your coworkers.
Spread the word about early screening and get your mammogram.
