PLYMOUTH, MN – After Canada announced retaliatory 50% tariffs on American products to counter President Trump’s 50% tariffs on Canadian goods, U.S. Representative Kelly Morrison (MN-03) released the following statement:

 

“Minnesotans rely on a strong partnership with Canada. President Trump must back down from his unnecessary trade war immediately. We cannot afford to alienate one of our closest allies and cut off trade with our partner to the north.

 

“Minnesotans are still dealing with the fallout from the last round of Trump’s illegal tariffs, gas prices are soaring, and there is no end to Trump’s illegal war of choice with Iran in sight.

 

“I’ve spent the last year and a half visiting Minnesota’s small businesses and have heard firsthand how President Trump’s tariffs are threatening their livelihoods. Last month, I asked the Small Business Administration about their plan to help small businesses navigate an escalating trade war with Canada – but they had no answer. An unnecessary, inexplicable trade war with Minnesota’s largest trading partner will only make things exponentially worse.”
